Construction has the highest suicide rate of any other industry. Mates in Construction are doing great work inside the industry to help raise awareness and provide training on prevention, but research shows that the wider the ecosystem, the greater the impact. So with that in mind, we made the prevention approach more holistic by bringing the customers into the support network. We proposed introducing ‘Mates Rates’ - a voluntary donation mechanism included on every invoice, benchmarked annually against the industry’s suicide rate, providing a conversation prompt and a collective approach towards protecting our mates.

The execution would deliberately avoid construction cues, instead reminding people who those mates are outside of work, showing the wider impact of getting this right.
